Come Celebrate Black History Month - February 2022

The Short Story Group is inviting all Carnegie Hill Village members to join our February meeting in honor of Black History Month.

Greetings to all Carnegie Hill Village members -

In honor of Black writers during Black History Month, the Short Story Group invites the CHV community to join our meeting on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 3:00-5:00pm.

Led by CHV member, Pat Jordan, and her colleague Molly Carpenter, we will be reading and discussing three selections from Ann Petry's Miss Muriel and Other Stories:  the Forward and two short stories, "The Migraine Workers" and "The Witness.”  These readings from Ann Petry’s book will give our members an introduction to this African American female writer.

In addition, we will read James Baldwin’s story, “Sonny’s Blues”, which was suggested by another Short Story Group member, Astrid von Baillou.

Pat and Molly are looking ahead to further researching contemporary living Black short story writers. The February selections provide rich historical themes that are unfortunately still prevalent.

We hope that you will join us by clicking on the green Register box below.

Once registered, Alden Prouty will send you the links to the readings so you may take part in the discussion.  On the day of the event, we will email you the Zoom link to the Short Story Group's meeting.
