COVID-19 Scams Targeting Seniors, via Zoom

An online event by Police Precinct 19 officer, Anthony Nuccio, on scams targeting seniors during the current pandemic.

Officer Anthony Nuccio of the 19th Police Precinct joined us for a timely Zoom presentation on scams being used to target seniors during the current pandemic, providing a lively heads up on reported scams such as:

  • Offers for fraudulent COVID-19 test kits
  • Calls/voice mail messages appearing to originate from the Center for Disease Control
  • Calls purporting to be from the local health department about recent contact with someone who has the virus
  • Offers to sell you an actual cure
  • Offers for cleaning services that purport to eliminate the virus from the air in your home
  • Calls regarding your stimulus check, asking for personal information to expedite payment
  • Contacts from “your” financial institution asking you to confirm or provide personal information to enhance security during the pandemic.

Following his remarks, Officer Nuccio stayed on to answer questions from the audience and provide information on where to report suspicious activity.
