Zoom Presentation- Ninth Street Women: Five Painters in New York in the 1950s

Art historian and educator, Emily Folpe, gave a Zoom presentation on five important women artists of the 1950s, inspired by the book Ninth Street Women Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell and Helen Frankenthaler: Five Painters and the Movement That Changed Modern Art.

On June 16, 2020 Emily Folpe gave an fascinating presentation on “Ninth Street Women: Five Painters in New York in the 1950s”, inspired by the book, Ninth Street Women  Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell and Helen Frankenthaler: Five Painters and the Movement That Changed Modern Art.

Emily Folpe attended Bryn Mawr College and received her PhD in Art History from Columbia University.  She served as museum educator at The Museum of Modern Art for many years, taught at Sarah Lawrence College and other area institutions, and lectured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. More recently she gave courses at NYU’s School of Professional Studies. Emily is that author of It Happened on Washington Square, published by Johns Hopkins University
