The Carnegie Hill Village Knitting Group meets weekly on Tuesdays in the home of our leader, mentor, and host, Ellen Korn.  The Group is now in its second year and has grown to a regular membership of eight-to-ten. We much enjoy working together, and our convivial, productive gatherings have fostered many new relationships.  Members can work on individual projects and group projects.

Our current group projects have produced knitted blankets of unique design for those in need. The first task has involved each of us individually knitting 60” long strips ranging from 5” to 10” wide.  We purchased the yarn and needles jointly, but had complete freedom to use any stitch we chose for our sixty-inch pieces. These were then blocked and sewn together forming an adult-sized blanket.

Fortunately, Ellen has a grand dining table that allows us to complete such a large piece. This blanket will be donated to a woman over 60 in our area through an organization called Search and Care, which serves this demographic.  A smaller, baby blanket will be donated to an organization that serves mothers and babies in New York City’s shelters.
