Dutch Art of the 17th Century

A discussion of Dutch 17th Century art including such luminaries as Rembrandt, Hals and Vermeer and their innovative ideas.

Join us via Zoom for another delightful late afternoon art lecture, this one by CHV member and museum docent Laura Conley. Her talk will include works by such familiar and monumental art world names as Rembrandt, Hals and Vermeer. And while the works included in her talk were all painted 400 years ago, Laura will delve into what was so new in these paintings when they were originally executed.

Laura grew up in the Netherlands where she studied Dutch 17th Century art (as well as law).  After retiring from a career with a scholarly publishing company here in the U.S., she became a docent at the Metropolitan Museum where, in non-Covid times, she gives tours of the American Wing and European Paintings galleries. She still visits the Netherlands every few years to see family and friends--including those on the walls of many Dutch art museums.
