Tour of "Hare with the Amber Eye" Exhibit at The Jewish Museum

Tour this fascinating exhibit, an interpretive installation using works from the illustrious Ephrussi family’s collection, looted by the Nazis during World War II.

Join CHV Art Committee member and curator Sarah Coffin O’Connor for a visit to The Hare with Amber Eyes exhibit at the Jewish Museum. This fascinating exhibit is an interpretive installation using works from the illustrious Ephrussi family’s collection, which spans a wide range: mid-19th century works, Impressionist paintings and netsuke (miniature Japanese carved sculptures.) It is celebrated in a 2010 memoir and New York Times bestseller, The Hare with Amber Eyes, by Edmund de Waal.

The exhibition, designed by renowned architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, working closely with de Waal and the Jewish Museum, tells the story of the Ephrussi family, whose collection was looted by the Nazis during World War II. It explores the story-telling nature of objects as well as the losses to fortune and art sustained by an eminent family, with an all-too-rare chance to see some of those works come together again.

Due to the small spaces in the exhibition, it has been almost impossible to arrange a group tour before now, but, thanks to our persistence, the Museum has made it possible for CHV before the exhibition closes on May 15th.

The group must be limited to just 14, so priority will be given to CHV members. We will meet at 11:45 AM outside the museum. Please bring $20 per person in cash for a donation to the museum. For additional information about the museum and exhibition, you may visit the website at https://thejewishmuseum.org.
