Tour of the Whitney's "At the Dawn of a New Age"

A tour of "At the Dawn of a New Age", the Whitney's exhibition of early modernist American art.

Drawn from the Whitney's permanent collection,  At the Dawn of a New Age is an exhibition of works by American artists highlighting the complexity of American art from 1900 to 1930.   America was growing explosively, and responding to the modern world, rejecting the past with an eye to the future. Cultural shifts gave artists a new vision.  New media techniques were used to create an innovative style of American modernism.   The Whitney has reassessed its collection of lesser-known and marginalized artists, particularly women and artists of color.   Acquisitions have filled gaps in the collection.  Sixty works by forty-five artists, working independently but in concert, create a broad perspective of early twentieth century American modernism.
