Tour of Whitney Museum: American Collection

Join us for a tour of the Whitney Museum's American Collection, 1900 -1965

The Whitney Collection: 1900 - 1965

Drawn from The Whitney’s permanent collection this exhibition highlights work from 1900-1965. As a champion of American art Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, a sculptor, and patron built a collection that represented the art of the time,

The exhibition begins with a gallery devoted to the selections from the founding collection followed by galleries showcasing work by artists that dealt with war, America’s industrial growth, changing cultures, and civil rights. Icons of the collection such as Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Andrew Wyeth are interspersed with lesser-known artists to create a dynamic exhibition that reframes the history of American Art.

The tour will be led by Gail Casale Whitney docent and CHV member. Please purchase your tickets online here and meet Gail at 10:30 in the lobby of the museum.
