Tour of Egyptian Galleries at the Metropolitan Museum

Join host Laura Conley and Met docent Andrea Lakian for a tour of the Egyptian Galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art

You are invited to join CHV member Laura Conley and Met docent Andrea Lakian for a tour of the Egyptian Galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  The tour will begin at 3:30PM on Thursday, November 30th. The Met's Egypt Department was founded in 1906, when Met staff began working in Egypt on an annual basis  Thanks to the Egyptian government, the Met was able to bring home half of the material discovered.  Today these finds form the majority of the museum's Egyptian collection. This includes objects dating from 3000BC up to the Temple of Dendur, 10 BC.  Nearly all the museum's Egyptian objects are on display.   During the tour Andrea will trace the development of funerary practices and thoughts concerning the afterlife as they appear in the collection.   The art, however, will be the focus of the tour.

The tour will be limited to 15 people, and will cost $15 per person.  This is the cost of a private tour within the museum and applies to everyone, including Met members.   There is no additional museum entry charge.  Under CHV's policy regarding payment of fees, the amount must be paid at the time of registration.  The group will meet in the Great Hall near the information desk, at 3:15PM.   If you would like to attend, please sign up by clicking on the green REGISTER button below.   If you find after registering that you are unable to join us, please remember to notify us at [email protected], so that someone on the waitlist can be notified.
