Tour of The Cloisters
Experience the art and architecture of medieval Europe from intimate works of private devotion to the splendor of the Unicorn Tapestries. See the light pour through the stained glass; hear stories of some of the paintings and sculptures, and marvel at the illuminated manuscripts under the guidance of Dina Grant. Dina has been a celebrated Cloisters guide for over ten years.
Weather permitting, after the tour we can step outside into the medieval Cloisters gardens, one each for medicine, plant dyes, housekeeping, love potions, magic, etc.
Note: there will be a special exhibition at the Cloisters when we are there, called "Spectrum of Desire: Love, Sex, and Gender in the Middle Ages." This exhibition will not be part of our tour. You may wish to come early and visit on your own or stay after the tour.
The visit to The Cloisters will be on Tuesday, October 21 from 3-4 PM. Our group will be limited to 15 people, and the cost of the tour is $15 per person. Payment must be arranged upon registration in accordance with CHV policy (pay with credit card at time of registration or send a check within 7 days). If you would like to join this tour, please click on the green REGISTER button below.
Directions to The Cloisters
By Subway/Bus from the East side:
Take the 86th Street or 96th Street crosstown bus to Central Park West; take the B or C subway Northbound. Change at 125th Street and take the A train to 190th Street. Exit the station by elevator. Walk north along Margaret Corbin Drive for approximately 10 minutes or transfer to the M4 bus and ride north one stop.
Another option, but MUCH SLOWER, is the M4 bus directly from Madison Avenue at 83rd Street to the last stop. This can easily take a full hour or more.
