Tour of the American Folk Art Museum

Eight CHV members joined docent (and CHV member) Rachel Strauber for an intimate tour of the American Folk Art Museum, focusing on two intriguing exhibitions, Neither Day nor Night and Gates of No Return.

Neither Day nor Night presents the work of John Dunkley (1891-1947), one of Jamaica’s best-known artists, and comprises almost his entire oeuvre, including landscapes, sculpture and paintings depicting scenes of daily life in Kingston.

Gates of No Return displays the work of Paa Joe (1947- ), born and raised in Ghana. It features seven of his architectural models of castles deployed in the American and Caribbean slave trade between the 16th and 19th centuries, commissioned by a noted New York gallery owner.
